everything in life is a choice,
There is no right and there is no wrong
It is a choice that leads you down a specified path
where there is a right and a wrong...
Life is all about choices,
will i call, should i do this, Cant have this,
its all topsy turvey, spinning in our heads.
Ultimately There is a choice
One that has to be made, one that has to be affirmed one that has to be maintained
My prayer has always been .... Praise Be to God Lord of the universe..Lord God, take me by the hand, Lord God show me where to go, Oh Lord let me not alone, Lest i go astray This is my essence -the voice of my soul.. This IS ME..

Four.. Eight.... Seven
i dont knw why i have this number in my head.... 487, this afternon - it came to my mind and i was wondering, where did i get this number from, what was i thinking before hand...
i read something last night...
20:130
Khalifa : Therefore, be patient in the face of their utterances, and praise and glorify your Lord before sunrise and before sunset. And during the night glorify Him, as well as at both ends of the day, that you may be happy.
Yusuf Ali :Therefore be patient with what they say, and celebrate (constantly) the praises of thy Lord, before the rising of the sun, and before its setting; yea, celebrate them for part of the hours of the night, and at the sides of the day: that thou mayest have (spiritual) joy.
Pickthal :Therefor (O Muhammad), bear with what they say, and celebrate the praise of thy Lord ere the rising of the sun and ere the going down thereof. And glorify Him some hours of the night and at the two ends of the day, that thou mayst find acceptance.
Shakir :Bear then patiently what they say, and glorify your Lord by the praising of Him before the rising of the sun and before its setting, and during hours of the night do also glorify (Him) and during parts of the day, that you may be well pleased
Sher Ali :Bear patiently then what they say, and glorify thy Lord with HIS praise before the rising of the sun and before its setting; and glorify HIM in the hours of the night and all parts of the day, that thou mayest find true happiness.
"Progressive Muslims" :So be patient to what they are saying and glorify the grace of your Lord before the rising of the sun, and before its setting, and from the early part of the night and the edges of the day that you may be content.
then look at
11:114
Khalifa :You shall observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) at both ends of the day, and during the night. The righteous works wipe out the evil works. This is a reminder for those who would take heed.
Yusuf Ali :And establish regular prayers at the two ends of the day and at the approaches of the night: For those things, that are good remove those that are evil: Be that the word of remembrance to those who remember (their Lord):
Pickthal :Establish worship at the two ends of the day and in some watches of the night. Lo! good deeds annul ill-deeds. This is reminder for the mindful.
Shakir :And keep up prayer in the two parts of the day and in the first hours of the night; surely good deeds take away evil deeds this is a reminder to the mindful.
Sher Ali :And observe Prayer at the two ends of the day, and in some hours of the night. Surely, good works drive away evil ones. This is a reminder for those who would remember.
"Progressive Muslims" : And you shall hold the assembly at both ends of the daylight and the near part of the night. The good deeds take away the bad. This is a reminder to those who remember.
then consider
17:78
Khalifa :You shall observe the Contact Prayer (Salat) when the sun declines from its highest point at noon, as it moves towards sunset. You shall also observe (the recitation of) the Quran at dawn. (Reciting) the Quran at dawn is witnessed.
Yusuf Ali : Establish regular prayers - at the sun's decline till the darkness of the night, and the morning prayer and reading: for the prayer and reading in the morning carry their testimony.
Pickthal :Establish worship at the going down of the sun until the dark of night, and (the recital of) the Qur'an at dawn. Lo! (the recital of) the Qur'an at dawn is ever witnessed.
Shakir : Keep up prayer from the declining of the sun till the darkness of the night and the morning recitation; surely the morning recitation is witnessed.
Sher Ali : Observe Prayer from the declining and paling of the sun till the darkness of the night, and recite the Qur'an at dawn. Verily, the recitation of the Qur'an at dawn is specially acceptable to Allah.
"Progressive Muslims" : You shall hold the assembly at the sun's setting until the darkness of the night, and the Quran at dawn; the Quran at dawn has been witnessed.
and consider
2:238
Khalifa: You shall consistently observe the Contact Prayers, especially the middle prayer, and devote yourselves totally to GOD.
Yusuf Ali : Guard strictly your (habit of) prayers, especially the Middle Prayer; and stand before God in a devout (frame of mind).
Pickthal : e guardians of your prayers, and of the midmost prayer, and stand up with devotion to Allah.
Shakir :Attend constantly to prayers and to the middle prayer and stand up truly obedient to Allah.
Sher Ali : Watch over prayers, and particularly the middle Prayer, and stand before Allah submissively.
"Progressive Muslims" : Preserve the assemblies, the balanced assembly, and stand devoutly for God.
and consider
50:39
Khalifa : Therefore, be patient in the face of their utterances, and praise and glorify your Lord before sunrise, and before sunset.
Yusuf Ali : Bear, then, with patience, all that they say, and celebrate the praises of thy Lord, before the rising of the sun and before (its) setting.
Pickthal : Therefor (O Muhammad) bear with what they say, and hymn the praise of thy Lord before the rising and before the setting of the sun;
Shakir : Therefore be patient of what they say, and sing the praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before the setting.
Sher Ali : So bear with patience what they say, and celebrate the praises of thy Lord, before the rising of the sun and before its setting;
"Progressive Muslims" : So be patient to what they are saying, and glorify the grace of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before the setting.
dont forget..
50:40
Khalifa : During the night you shall meditate on His name, and after prostrating.
Yusuf Ali : And during part of the night, (also,) celebrate His praises, and (so likewise) after the postures of adoration.
Pickthal : And in the night-time hymn His praise, and after the (prescribed) prostrations.
Shakir : And glorify Him in the night and after the prayers.
Sher Ali : And in parts of the night also do thou glorify HIM, and after the prescribed prostrations.
"Progressive Muslims" : And from the night glorify Him, and after submitting.
and then consider
24:58
Khalifa :O you who believe, permission must be requested by your servants and the children who have not attained puberty (before entering your rooms). This is to be done in three instances - before the Dawn Prayer, at noon when you change your clothes to rest, and after the Night Prayer. These are three private times for you. At other times, it is not wrong for you or them to mingle with one another. GOD thus clarifies the revelations for you. GOD is Omniscient, Most Wise.
Yusuf Ali : O ye who believe! let those whom your right hands possess, and the (children) among you who have not come of age ask your permission (before they come to your presence), on three occasions: before morning prayer; the while ye doff your clothes for the noonday heat; and after the late-night prayer: these are your three times of undress: outside those times it is not wrong for you or for them to move about attending to each other: Thus does God make clear the Signs to you: for God is full of knowledge and wisdom.
Pickthal : O ye who believe! Let your slaves, and those of you who have not come to puberty, ask leave of you at three times (before they come into your presence): Before the prayer of dawn, and when ye lay aside your raiment for the heat of noon, and after the prayer of night. Three times of privacy for you. It is no sin for them or for you at other times, when some of you go round attendant upon others (if they come into your presence without leave). Thus Allah maketh clear the revelations for you. Allah is Knower, Wise.
Shakir : O you who believe! let those whom your right hands possess and those of you who have not attained to puberty ask permission of you three times; before the morning prayer, and when you put off your clothes at midday in summer, and after the prayer of the nightfall; these are three times of privacy for you; neither is it a sin for you nor for them besides these, some of you must go round about (waiting) upon others; thus does Allah make clear to you the communications, and Allah is Knowing, Wise.
Sher Ali :O ye who believe ! let those whom your right hand possess, and those of you, who have not reached puberty, ask leave of you at three times before coming into your private apartments -before the Morning Prayer, and when you lay aside your clothes at noon (in summer) and after the night Prayer. These are the three times of privacy for you. At other times there is no blame on you nor on them, for some of you have to attend upon others and to move about freely according to need. Thus does Allah make plain to you the Signs; for Allah is All-Knowing, Wise.
"Progressive Muslims" : O you who believe, let those who are your dependants and have not yet attained puberty request your permission regarding three times: Before the Dawn assembly, and during the noon-time when you put-off your outer garments, and after the Evening assembly. These are three private times for you. Other than these times, it is not wrong for you or them to invite or visit others. God thus clarifies the revelations for you. And God is Knowledgeable, Wise.
You know, i smile when I compare different translations of the scripture together.. it makes me smile... because the question in my head is that with their sometimes aparrent similarities and choice of words, "what makes one think his translation is the best?"
Really God is full of wisdom and he has knowledge over all things...
so please consider these verses, I have used web QT to find them and my choice of words being, sunrise, sunset, salat, dawn, noon, night..
Remember when i wrote about You shall....
think about it and lets decide together... By the way my own thoughts - all human knowledge is flawed... its funny, can be misleading, subjective and thought provoking... -
please by all means.. Go and read the arabic of these verses and use that as the ultimate comparison...
... My Lord increase in my knowledge...
Whatever i read, see or hear,
Any truth therein my Lord let me take to it,
Any falseness therein, my Lord, Keep it away from me,
You alone Lord possess all Knowledge, wisdom and understand..
Grant me from thee my Lord...

this life never ceases to amaze me...

racsm.. is todays hot topic....
how racist are you... but the funny thing is that racist, by no means an ordinary word, is what we all are...
Racism is judgement - passing judgement, making comments, discrimination against another person, purely because you may not understand them, think they are weird, do not agree with their customs...
yes we are all racist, we all use derrogatory words to descibe another person, race/colour - it may be through no fault of our own - its is what we have learnt growing up. - but it does not make it any more right or less wrong..
As a race, we are each goverened by how society percieves another individual as either being acceptable or not. We pass judgement based on how the other person conforms to this ideal. if it is foreign, then its is weird, it is backward, it is undignified...
what we dont understand we dismiss as unprogressive, we oppose and we seek conformity...
but look! life is not like that.. there is me, you, us and we, we can all be the same yet very different, each with distinct characteristics, we multiply, we form communities and develop a culture..
We should learn to understand where other people are coming from, not seek conformity but understand and TOLERATE.... what gives anyone the right to think that they are more superior than another... what is it.. Is is EGO, arrogance, Selfishness, POWER?
what gives anyone thie right to think their culture is the best, ?
The human mind is only concerned with I, I think, I know, therefore I say it should be this way... Selfishness....
how do they know that IT IS the best?
They cant know, because they only see their culture through the window of their judgement... They obeserve through the comfort that it allows them and then they decide with this same yardstick, to measure another culture...
Yes i agree, one is able to get on with another person without having to respect their point of view.. It is tolerance..

3vs5.. the debate is on again...i am not the first nor will i be the last to look at this issue.. i envy the people of earlier generatons,,
i ency people of the time of the prophets.. cos they had stuff direct. they has salat, moses had salat, jesus has salat, david had salat, solomon had salat, abraham had salat,
is this salat different or is it the same salat that we all have been decreed to do.. yes we are different tribes/races, we may have different rites.. but is salat the same or different....
i remember reading somewhere that somewhere some old orthodox jews perform their prayer bowing and prostrating and they perform 3 times a day..
omo this life is funny....the quran is clear.. it will always be clear...
faith is addresses, worshipping one God only
salat IS Addressed. gives timings and names.
Zakat is addressed.. gives what to do, what to give...
by no means is the subject of contention addressed by appendices or footnotes, but rather it is in the content of the Quran... God be praised that His word is the truth and will always stand out.... above everything else...
i dont know anything again and my head is spinning... the question at hand is to be objective without agenda or motive and gw try to arrive at the logical truth...
the worb maghrib and asr are both in the quran as far as i am aware now but i dont think they are used connection with salat, but they are words in their own right.. maghrib is found in surah 18:86 , 2:177 as well as others and asr is found in surat Asr amongst others.... maghrib is translated west, which is a direction.... while asr is translated as afternoon...
FATS: like i said previously, the words with salat attached to them is salat fajr in 14:58 and salat isha in same surah... and salat wusta in 2:238.. those as far as i know and i have found so far are the ones that are said by name....
FATS: the bone of contention now is what is the translation is wusta.. some say its middle, some say its best.. if it is middle, then it implies that salat of a day os an odd number with wusta being the middle prayer... if if it is best then. means this salat is hghly favoured..
F.ATS :here are 2 ways to look at this... i feel
F.ATS: one.. the quran is complete. in that case and keeping with the word of God, it only mentions 3 salat by name.. that is the truth as far as i can see... i have not found salat dhur. or salat asr or salat maghrib....
F.ATS: two. we recieve commands from God thru messeengers.. and if the messenger said it is 5 times a day then i guess it is.. howver if i am honest i am not that convinced.. my feeling is that salat is something that has been before the time of mohammed, as it was prescribed to the other prophets.. so it is someting that has been.. so i guess if we can go back in history we can try to find the answers... no one is above mistake/error. far cry from me being the one to point fingers cos i daily make mistakes myself.. The truth is always evident and the truth is there in print in the Quran.. however note that we are going by translated version... so how much of a gap is the translated version from the arabic meanning.. and does this add to or subtract from our understanding..
F.A TS: for me using the quran alone..it is 3 prayers, fajr, at dawn isha at sunset heading towards night, and wusta in middle when sun declines from highest point at noon until it reaches sunset...
F.A TS: its a tough one, my dear, let me know what you think..

on another note
this my manager she is funny...
she has to tell me to behave at a meeting that is coming up with the big wigs.
hmmm,
it wa sonly this one incident when i attended a training that i felt was a waste of my time and i was moody and i just wanted to be quite and left alone to listen and get on with it... but the managers there didnt want that...
you know its funny, cos these are the same managers that i have been working with for 5 years and they know that i am a very reserved person in any new surroundings.. unless i have some thing to say, if i di i say it.. if i dont then i keep quiet, and quiet is what i keep
they also know that i get uncomfortable with eye contact.. and i am generally mouse like and attentive..
we had a talk after the day happened.. and i said my piece and thats all... now letes forget the whole stuff and move on... i have no grudges and no qualms, once my piece is said thats it...
on another hand it was a nice gesture of her to come to say to me to remember the meeting, because in all honestly i had forgotten about it.. and its good cos now i have to build up courage for eye contact.. - will be interesting...
honestly i am going bonkers... lololololololololololololololololololololo :)

love and accept, get on and respect
.............IT IS POSSIBLE TO LOVE SOMEONE WITHOUT HAVING TO RESPECT THEIR VIEWS/CHOICES................
hmmm, i read that in glamour magazine, and it caught me a wee bit cos i had to think about that statement...
i guess that is tolerance, by my own understanding, you still love/get on with that person, but you dont share the same views/accept the same beliefs..
so how possible is this to achieve..
the first things that get to me is the intertwining of the words themselves and how some people see them.
1 - on some level, to love is to respect.
2 - on another level to love is to accept
you surround yourself with people who share most of your views on life, that way you get along and there is harmony, and instinctively you stay away from those whose views and beliefs are soooooo far removed from yours - bar the anomalies which will occur here - like bonding through familiarity -
every person, i assume ( apologies cos i am generalising here) cannot not judge another human being. we just cant help it, even though it is a thought, a passing glance, or dis-acknowledgement we in some way interact with others through judging their every action/behaviour.. so how can we learn to accept people for who they are and be tolerant to their views..
hmmm
my own view is to separate the person, - ( i call this the person we identify with) from their view/choice( what the person identifies with)..
i see some flaws here... because what someone identifies with, usually contributes to how they see life and ultimately how they behave with other people and in effect who they are..
so is this still possible..
its like saying ( on a far fetch scale) that i love my dad, he is still my dad, but i hate that he is a mass murderer... ( firstly, that is judgement in it simplistic form because one.. it is my own judgement according to my own set of rules that i deem my dad to be a mass murderer, secondly how can you accept your dad knowing that he has killed other people - that will assume that you agree with his killing other people or it docent bother you that he kills other people, which may imply that you see nothing wrong in killing other people {there are different ways i could look at this})

the Perfect Birthday day event
you know when you have a congregation, like a prayer meeting, or a deliverance, or a prayer group when people gather together for the purpose of praising God and exalting His name..
Well if i had a wish that is how i would want to spend my birthday....
yes, i know i can do it alone, i dont need people to convene with me to praise the Most Gracious, but i guess it will be fun..
what i remember is the organised prayer groups that my dad would organise when special things happen, like his birthday, rememberance of a loved one bla bla.. whilst i am in favour of the prayer group/praise group, i am not in favour of their actions or words..
basically, the way i see it.. they convene to praise God, but they then ask/solicit fo rmoney from those who attend, by asking them to donate money and they offer prayeer in favour of that person... the money i guess is charity, but i guess is shared amongst the guys..
we call them alfas,
then again they sit and praise God, melodious as it may sound, memory induced as it may be, it is interesting and uplifting to be there, however then comes the part that i dont agree with again,
my view is that they sit and heap praises on prophet mohammed..
for me God is the only one to be praised. Where God is praised, no mention of any of Gods messengers/prophets should come close at all..
if we can remove the praise of prophet/messenger and the collection of money or obligation of people to give them money,, then what you have is a group of people coming together to praise God.. and that is how i would want to spend my day...
you know, i have already dreamt this... when in the middle of the prayer.. i will say Fata aala lahu mulku-ul-haqqu... and we will reply - la ilaha illahuwa rabbil - arshi-il karim.
i state "Most exalted is God, the true Sovereign", and they will reply "there is no other God beside Him, the Posessor of all Authority Most Honorable Lord".
i dont know if you have experienced it before, this prayer congregation, when you all sit and lets say for instance all chant la ilaha illalah - there is no other God but God, or alhamdullilahi- Praise be to God, ,, , subhannaka lahuma - Be you Glorified my God,
its exhilerating...
That is the perfect day event for me...
Is this realisable?

The most Gracious, He has assumed all Authority

Khalifa: The Most Gracious; He has assumed all authority.
Yusuf Ali: (God) Most Gracious is firmly established on the throne (of authority).
Pickthal: The Beneficent One, Who is established on the Throne.
Shakir: The Beneficent God is firm in power.
Sher Ali: HE is the Gracious God Who has settled Himself firmly on the throne.
"Progressive Muslims": The Almighty, on the throne He settled.

Surah 20:5
I was listening to this surah yesterday and it caught me dead
why, well because the word - i have heard before..
it takes me back to childhood, it takes me back to family life when i was young and when life was much muchmuch more easy, when even though there was a split in the family, we were still living together, we were still talking to each other, we were still a family ( this word not used sparingly - we were a family as we knew how to be a family)
it made me have memories about my dad on his prayer mat, nightly prayers, long duas... the smell of incense, the prayer mat that my dad uses.. the bowl filled with sand where you chook the incense to.. the fish tank,
the cream yellow colour of the living room, the brown curtains... the bad sofas and manky carpets, the standing fana nd the non existent air conditioner...

the simplicity of life and all it carries, the innocence of childhood - well in my case, not that innocent..

Daze!! it is possible to be dazzled...
one time, at quran study, i remember a discussion was said relating to the dismay and disbelief of zachariah, when after calling to his Lord, and His Lord answerd his prayers, but i felt his response was almost like a disbelief that his prayers were answered by God , to which i thought aloud, why then did you ask if you go" is this for real? how can it be so"
also the same thread can be applied to Abraham, when he had his guests and they told his wife sarah of Gods blessings upon her.. she went kinds like " me?"
then look at mary, who was also told of gods blessings upon her and she went " how can this be"
I know know how it is to be in that boat.. for when the Lord performs His miracles, and when He answers your preyer requests , sometimes we are so dazed by the fact that He has replied made possible the request!!
but there is no dazzlement in the issues and decrees of the Lord for " THUS!! says The Lord, For anything to be done, all HE has to say is BE and IT IS.."
I AM kinda in a daze myself, but with this new episode in my Life, I look to God most High, to continue to provide for me His protection and guidance, To keep me safe and keep US sound... I look to God who has Made it POSSIBLE for my very first "Birthday Present" to become Possible to Be. I thank the Most Holy, The Holiest, The Most Gracious, well in advance, for His hindsight, for when things were bleak i didnt understand why they were so, for in this opportunity, He has provided me with more opportunity... He has blessed me and I am grateful....
My Lord, Please continue to shower on me your Mercy and Bless my affairs with your guidance...Keep me - regardless of the circumstances -Praising and Glorifying, and Magnifying Thee always, forgive me for my sins, Protect me from blaspheming against thee, Include me by thy grace and mercy into the company of your righteous servants....
For in life, each day each season, I Learn of your mercies, I see your ways and I am opportuned to see how things Work the way you want them to be...
My Lord my Guardian, Master of my fate and Freedon, before anything, I call on thee, So to this new journey tomorrow, I seek thy mercy and thy protection and your guidance onwards...

You Shall ...... Say.... Wa La ... Qul...
this is a word that is used a lot of times in the Quran Scripture...
The most notable one i guess that resonates with people is the well known, last three chapters of the Quran - Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq - and An -Nas
Reading the Quran one will find ( mainly me in this case cos i dont know about other people) the word or command as the case may be asking us as humans/souls as learners as deep/shallow thinkers to reflect on the command that is therein issued..
Qul!
it will be interesting to compile a list of all the verses that start with Qul or rather all the rverses with Qul relating in it and then looking at the answer...
in some ways i feel it gives us a saying, it gives us the answer to questions that have been posed over the years and questions that are probably still being asked over the years..
for example
when someone asks me Who is God, I can answer:
He is the one God. The absolute God. Neither did he begett nor was He begotted . and no one equals Him.
at the same time if one were to ask me when I am afraid at night, what so i say to console myself
I seek refuge with the Lord of daybreak. From the evils from amongs His creations, from the evils of darkness as it falls, from the evils of the troublemakers and from the evils of the envious when they envy..
the thread goes on and on..
so for me i see it when i see Qul - i see it as a command/answer to a question that sometimes is posed in the verse before it or as a command to help us through life..
The most notable one for me is verse 111 chapter 17.
Say - Praise be to God who has never begotten a son, He does not need a partner in His Kingship neither does He need an ally out of weakness...
This for me each time i read the quran jumps out to me,
probably because the verse before it relates to the prayer and the names which with we can call God..
110- 111 Call Him God or call Him the Most Gracious, To Him belongs the most beautiful names. You shall not utter your contact prayers too, loud or too soft, Use a moderate tone
and say "Praise be to God ...... and magnify Him constantly.
I look at the two verses as one verse, one as a direct commandment therein - "Wa La" - which means "You Shall" - this too is used in the Quran when a law is decreed by God i feel. It is the way the translator is translating it.. - You shall - that is a law statement as far as i am comcerned while Qul - Say is a command for us to obey.
Law for us to observe and command for us to obey... lol
if i didnt write this down now i would forget or loose the spirit to write it and i wont be able to think about it more when i re-read the post..
for future reflection.

it flew into my head
inspiration is that which the lord gives.. in the most unexoected way..
It is a thought and idea.. it is a solution...
but dont be fooled into thinking that the ways of evil is an inspration for the devil too does whispers into your ears...
How can you tell the difference.. Your heart will let you know . For in the words of God lies pure inspiration on its own.. no ambguity, unclarity..
Hold onto God, the Most High,
Inspiration is.....
for all Praise is Yours, all Authority, Kingship and all Glory. In this life and in there hereafter, There is no other God but Thee. Be Thou Glorified, Most Gracious Lord.
Nothing that God has decreed can ever be stopped, neither can that which God has stopped can ever be initiated.God is the initiator and the Creator and He has total control/authority over everything
