and then consider
24:58
Khalifa :O you who believe, permission must be requested by your servants and the children who have not attained puberty (before entering your rooms). This is to be done in three instances - before the Dawn Prayer, at noon when you change your clothes to rest, and after the Night Prayer. These are three private times for you. At other times, it is not wrong for you or them to mingle with one another. GOD thus clarifies the revelations for you. GOD is Omniscient, Most Wise.
Yusuf Ali : O ye who believe! let those whom your right hands possess, and the (children) among you who have not come of age ask your permission (before they come to your presence), on three occasions: before morning prayer; the while ye doff your clothes for the noonday heat; and after the late-night prayer: these are your three times of undress: outside those times it is not wrong for you or for them to move about attending to each other: Thus does God make clear the Signs to you: for God is full of knowledge and wisdom.
Pickthal : O ye who believe! Let your slaves, and those of you who have not come to puberty, ask leave of you at three times (before they come into your presence): Before the prayer of dawn, and when ye lay aside your raiment for the heat of noon, and after the prayer of night. Three times of privacy for you. It is no sin for them or for you at other times, when some of you go round attendant upon others (if they come into your presence without leave). Thus Allah maketh clear the revelations for you. Allah is Knower, Wise.
Shakir : O you who believe! let those whom your right hands possess and those of you who have not attained to puberty ask permission of you three times; before the morning prayer, and when you put off your clothes at midday in summer, and after the prayer of the nightfall; these are three times of privacy for you; neither is it a sin for you nor for them besides these, some of you must go round about (waiting) upon others; thus does Allah make clear to you the communications, and Allah is Knowing, Wise.
Sher Ali :O ye who believe ! let those whom your right hand possess, and those of you, who have not reached puberty, ask leave of you at three times before coming into your private apartments -before the Morning Prayer, and when you lay aside your clothes at noon (in summer) and after the night Prayer. These are the three times of privacy for you. At other times there is no blame on you nor on them, for some of you have to attend upon others and to move about freely according to need. Thus does Allah make plain to you the Signs; for Allah is All-Knowing, Wise.
"Progressive Muslims" : O you who believe, let those who are your dependants and have not yet attained puberty request your permission regarding three times: Before the Dawn assembly, and during the noon-time when you put-off your outer garments, and after the Evening assembly. These are three private times for you. Other than these times, it is not wrong for you or them to invite or visit others. God thus clarifies the revelations for you. And God is Knowledgeable, Wise.
You know, i smile when I compare different translations of the scripture together.. it makes me smile... because the question in my head is that with their sometimes aparrent similarities and choice of words, "what makes one think his translation is the best?"
Really God is full of wisdom and he has knowledge over all things...
so please consider these verses, I have used web QT to find them and my choice of words being, sunrise, sunset, salat, dawn, noon, night..
Remember when i wrote about You shall....
think about it and lets decide together... By the way my own thoughts - all human knowledge is flawed... its funny, can be misleading, subjective and thought provoking... -
please by all means.. Go and read the arabic of these verses and use that as the ultimate comparison...
... My Lord increase in my knowledge...
Whatever i read, see or hear,
Any truth therein my Lord let me take to it,
Any falseness therein, my Lord, Keep it away from me,
You alone Lord possess all Knowledge, wisdom and understand..
Grant me from thee my Lord...
