Careful of arrogance

It is very easy to be proud and arrogant at the blessings God does bestow on one. It is very easy to become complacent in thinking/assuming that this will be for you all the time. It is very easy to think that with all the blessings it must mean you are in the right and others are wrong...
God cause me not to be arrogant but keep me humble and grateful for all your care and love. Cause me not to be proud but make in me gentle that I may appreciate more and with unbounded gratitude for thee for your care and blessings on me.
Help me to you that I may understand and worship you, that I may glorify and praise you.
Help me to be charitable that I may share in the joys and blessings from you onto me.

Because I have been given much I too must give.....because of thy great bounty Lord each day I live.. I shall di ide my gifts from Thee, with every brother that I see- who has a need of help from me.

Guide me to thee o. Lord and help me in this life. Grant me peace and contentment.. Help me to know you to worship you to praise you. Never let me forget you O lord that I may forever be in the compounds of your grace.

financial matters

the other day i was propositioned
the use of my name to facilitate buying a house.
i have thought long and hard on it and it i snot something that i am interested in.

coincidentally, a day after i got a call from my father who advised he was leaving our family home because  - he had bought the house in his best friends name - at a time when he was in a position  of power and could not have the land trace back to him. he never changed the name of th house - and it turns out that so many years later about over 30 yrs the friend( according to my father) is planning to sell the premises he has build behind his back - because his name is on the deed. - i am suspicious about this whole thing to be honest as i have my ideas - but the are deep found with my mistrust and suspicions of family members... why after so many years would this person want to go behind my dad to sell the premises... there was opportunity to do it back then so why now..

if anything defaults -  as my name is on the papers i will be implicated - not that anything is going to default -i dont know this.. but it is my view it is  not a win win arrangement.

Thanks and help my Lord

Dear Lord, it is a great joy when I feed this boy and he eagerly eats what I cook.
This I recognise as a blessing from you. And I thank you for this opportunity.
I remember when I was anxious at weaning and how I asked for your help and sure enough you made the process relatively easy. For me. With your blessing of the childminder u let him fall things into place.
Right now I put before thee the next stage of speech development and potty training and I ask for your inspiration and help with it. As I don't know what and how to do this please help me to help him along..

As you have bestowed on me the joy of another, I ask in advance again for this one all the stages we have to go through and ask for your ease and blessing upon this child too.. Grant me a healthy ablebodied child my Lord, one with your inspiration and guidance inbedded in their heart and mind and head. Grant my children righteousness my Lord.. Let then know you and understand you.. Let then accept and worship you..Let me be intune to my children, help me to understand their needs and wants.. to be responsive to them, help me to show them a good example guided by truth and righteousness.. Help me to be the best I can be for them and more.. Guide us all in your path that we may worship and glorify thy great name.
Blessed art thou my Lord the Most gracious Providing Lord.

Praise to the Lord

  • Praise to the Lord, the Almighty,
      the King of creation!
Let my soul, praise Him, for He is thy
      health and salvation!
        All ye who hear,
    Now to His temple draw near;
    Sing now in glad adoration!

  • Praiseto the Lord, who o’er all
      things so wondrously reigneth,
Who, as on wings of an eagle,
      uplifteth, sustaineth me
        Hast thou not seen
How my desires all have been
    Granted in what He ordaineth?

  • Praise to the Lord, who hath fearfully,
      wondrously, made me!
My Health hath vouchsafed and, when
      heedlessly falling, hath stayed me.
        What need or grief
    Ever hath failed of relief?
Wings of His mercy did shade me.

  • Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper
     my work and defend me,
Who from the heavens the streams of
      His mercy doth send me.
        Ponder anew
    What the Almighty can do,
Who with His love doth befriend thee.

  • Praise to the Lord! Oh, let all that
      is in me adore Him!

All that hath life and breath, come
      now with praises before Him!
        Let the Amen
    Sound from His people again;
Gladly for aye I adore Him.

i had a dream the other  day that i was going to have twins.. i was no going to tell anyone.. but on one hand i was elated and then on another i was soooo sad and scared.
Lord grant me a healthy child.
these things we take for granted i know.

but i beg of thee my Lord grant me a healthy child.
bestow on this child your love and care your blessings and support
Grant me a righteous child dear Lord.

    Appreciation

st points in my life when i achieve something i never thought i would, i like to write a piece and today is no different.
God - i thank you - did i ever think i would reach this stage - never  at all - did i think i could be free of it - no.

it is still an issue -  the desire to have things - not knowing what is actually good for me or not.
but with your grace and blessing - I will surely overcome it.

so today i closed my RAC
after about  almost 9 years - today i am doing what is right.

i guess i put myself on this path because i never really understood money and its effect on my ego and desire.
i always wanted what others wanted - i never wanted to be outdone - the people i looked up to were flashing at me and i wanted to stay on the same par - albeit as legally as i could
so if someone could have "that something" so could i.

i set myself on the path in that the friends i  had who influenced me in the wrong path -  my misguided loyalty at thinking people were my friends when in fact i was their sucker -
friends who cannot tell you what for what - or at least tell you their truth or common truth/sense - are not friends at all.
it  has  taken me a very very long time to realise this.
when i was someone i knew i was not just to please so  called friends.
when i did  things i should not do just because i wanted to be part of a friend group  so i had people i could talk to/ socialise with - Even when i knew deep down it was wrong.
I closed of my conscience for social interaction -
i was  sooo lonely and soooo glad of a friendly word/affection i mistook that for trust and good intentions.

but God willing we learn from our mistakes and God willing  i will learn  by Gods grace i will learn.

so God - a big resounding THANK YOU - that you have enabled me to be able  to reach this stage in my life - to be able to understand why i was in that stage. - My Lord thank you.

Blessed are thou My Lord of all ages and of all times. who does bestow upon my his grace and blessings.
     thank You

    Translation

there was something i wrote before(alaa Llahi) in relation to my views on RK translation and  i can confirm that i do not want to be associated with its reproduction in any form /of  giving people to use as a source/truth to  Gods message.
it is my  view that the translation is not perfect.  and my no means do i agree that it is an authorised translation from God.

The translation itself is not complete - words are not translated or at best are  omitted in translation.

it is my view that this  attempt of translation is very much the same as the new testament - when someone trys to translate using the language of the time.

You cannot use RK translation as a reference for finding words and its uses in the quran because the author is not consistent in this regard.

what it is is what i will call it is n interpretation from RK as to what the verses mean.
he has interpreted the verses - IT is  his viw  - this is what the verses mean.

i will very much advise everyone/anyone wanting to study the quran - by all means it is an easy read - but easy is not necessarily the best ..
find other  translations and read them to.
one is always weary of quoting verbatim that this is what  a verse means.. because in reality the translations is the translators interpretation of what such a verse means and it is not a source of law.

for those who chose to translate from the RK version into other religions - i say this is poo poo -  because what they will do in my view is to translate from the english - from an interpretation -  making the same mistakes of omitted words and order of arabic.

but as with all things - i hold to the belief that we all get different meanings of the Quran and it is God who is the teacher and will direct  us to the best meaning for each and our individual circumstances - our limits and our graces.

    May God guide us all.

    Give thanks

Today I give thanks to my Creator, the Most Gracious, for the life of the boy. Today he is 18months.
I thank thee O lord for the wonderful care and love that you have on him. I am grateful and feel soooooo blessed to be him mother and I ask thee for good health for both of us, forgiveness of our sins and your grace and mercy on us daily in this life and the hereafter.
God I have asked of thee secretly and I will ask of thee in public that you place your wisdom and guidance and love in the heart of my children. That you show them and guide them to you, that you help them to walk through this life heads held high, confidant in your care, love and blessings. Help them to see your truth and give them a timely understanding of your creations.
Guide then against darkness and instill in them your light which illuminates and clears all things.

Help me too my lord to show then, to give then a good example to follow, don't let me play lip service but let me show them with conviction and action. Guide me to you oh lord and keep me with you, to worship glorify, praise and exalt thee always each day in this life and the hereafter.
My lord I have believed in thee and I trust in thee as my Lord and master. You are my Most Gracious Lord, my lord and only God. Blessed is thy Name master of all Glory, worthy of all Praise.
I thank thee and praise thy great name for your goodness, kindness and blessings in my life each day, that which I see and that I don't. I thank you for your care and love and guidance. And I ask that may it continue each time each day, in this life and the hereafter.
    For all praise is yours
    All authority kingship and glory
In this life and the next
    Be thou glorified my lord

When to end fast - from when the white is distinguishable from dark at dawn till Night - not sunset

it is the popular assumption that we end fasting at sunset..
but  on reading the Quran - i fint that it is incorrect this assumption.

in relation to fasting the arabic read from the Quran

    2:187
Ohilla lakum laylata alssiyami alrrafathu ila nisaikum hunna libasun lakum waantum libasun lahunna AAalima Allahu annakum kuntum takhtanoona anfusakum fataba AAalaykum waAAafa AAankum faalana bashiroohunna waibtaghoo ma kataba Allahu lakum wakuloo waishraboo hatta yatabayyana lakumu alkhaytu alabyadu mina alkhayti alaswadi mina alfajri thumma atimmoo alssiyama ila allayli wala tubashiroohunna waantum AAakifoona fee almasajidi tilka hudoodu Allahi fala taqrabooha kathalika yubayyinu Allahu ayatihi lilnnasi laAAallahum yattaqoona

the red bold is in relation to what i want to discuss..

Please note there is the alif missing at the beginning of this arabic paste.

in my  view translation is as thus on the red bolded parts -

    وَكُلُوا
    wakulū
    And eat

    وَاشْرَبُوا
    wa-ish'rabū
    and drink

    ḥattā
    until

    يَتَبَيَّنَ
    yatabayyana
    becomes distinct

    lakumu
    to you

    الْخَيْطُ

    the thread

    الْأَبْيَضُ

    الْأَسْوَدِ

    the fast

    إِلَى
    ilā
    till

    اللَّيْلِ
    al-layli
    the night.

it is clear that sunset is not the night - at least for it it is ..
     night begins when sunset ends..
so forthwith - end of any fasting is the start of night..
God be praised for helping me to see and to understand.

also on some other issues based on a discussion with my friend today - sighting the moon is not a requisite in the Quran for the start of ramadan - i could not find anything in relation to sighting the moon - sighting the moon comes from one of the many hadiths  some people attribute to muhammed/his companions -i dont know how accurate that is over time.

nevertheless i made a concise decision not to follow hadith over Quran.. Quran is from God and when else is there that is best?

    alif, Qaf, Mim - Aqimi

    The word(s) "aqimi" appears 5 time(s) in 5 verse(s) in Quran.
    (1) Waaqimi alssalata tarafayi alnnahari wazulafan mina allayli inna alhasanati yuthhibna alssayyiati thalika thikra lilththakireena
    11:114
    (2) aqimi alssalata lidulooki alshshamsi ila ghasaqi allayli waqurana alfajri inna qurana alfajri kana mashhoodan  17:78
    (3) Innanee ana Allahu la ilaha illa ana faoAAbudnee waaqimi alssalata lithikree
    20:14
    (4) Otlu ma oohiya ilayka mina alkitabi waaqimi alssalata inna alssalata tanha AAani alfahshai waalmunkari walathikru Allahi akbaru waAllahu yaAAlamu ma tasnaAAoona
    29:45
    (5) Ya bunayya aqimi alssalata wamur bialmaAAroofi wainha AAani almunkari waisbir AAala ma asabaka inna thalika min AAazmi alomoori
    31:17

this is a different thought - a different perspective.

the word aqimi  - is used in connection with salat in the quran- that is what i find and it is loosely translated as an action -  observing salat,

    11:114
Edip-LaythTimes of the Contact Prayers11:114 You shall hold the contact prayer at both ends of the day and the near part of the night. The good deeds take away the bad. This is a reminder for those who remember.12
The Monotheist Group11:114 And you shall hold the communion at the two edges of the day, during the near parts of the night. The good deeds take away the bad. This is a reminder to those who remember.
Muhammad Asad11:114 And be constant in praying at the beginning and the end144 of the day, as well as during the early watches of the night:145 for, verily, good deeds drive away evil deeds: this is a reminder to all who bear [God] in mind.
Rashad KhalifaThree of the Five Prayers11:114 You shall observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) at both ends of the day, and during the night. The righteous works wipe out the evil works. This is a reminder for those who would take heed.
Shabbir Ahmed11:114 Strive to establish and consolidate the Divine System, day and night. Actions that create balance in the society remove the ill effects of inequities. Good deeds remove bad deeds. This is a reminder for those who pay attention.
Transliteration11:114 Waaqimi alssalata tarafayialnnahari wazulafan mina allayli inna alhasanatiyuthhibna alssayyi-ati thalika thikralilththakireena

    17:78

Edip-Layth17:78 You shall hold the contact prayer at the setting of the sun, until the darkness of the night; and the Quran at dawn, the Quran at dawn has been witnessed.14
The Monotheist Group17:78 You shall hold the communion at the setting of the sun until the darkness of the night; and the Qur'an at dawn; the Qur'an at dawn is witnessed.
Muhammad Asad17:78 BE CONSTANT in [thy] prayer from the time when the sun has passed its zenith till the darkness of night, and [be ever mindful of its] recitation at dawn:95 for, behold, the recitation [of prayer] at dawn is indeed witnessed [by all that is holy].96
Rashad KhalifaThe Noon Prayer17:78 You shall observe the Contact Prayer (Salat) when the sun declines from its highest point at noon, as it moves towards sunset. You shall also observe (the recitation of) the Quran at dawn. (Reciting) the Quran at dawn is witnessed.
Shabbir Ahmed17:78 You shall commit yourself to reflect on the Divine Commands before sunrise and then carry on with your program until the darkness of night prevails. The Qur'an springs forth the light for you to brighten your way. The dawn ushered in by the Qur'an will be self-evident to all. Its likeness is the dawn that brings light after a dark night.34
Transliteration17:78 Aqimi alssalatalidulooki alshshamsi ila ghasaqi allayli waqur-anaalfajri inna qur-ana alfajri kana mashhoodan
    20:14
Edip-Layth20:14 "I am God, there is no god but Me, so serve Me and hold the contact prayer for My remembrance."3
The Monotheist Group20:14 "I am God, there is no god but Me, so serve Me and hold the communion for My remembrance."
Muhammad Asad20:14 "Verily, I - I alone - am God; there is no deity save Me. Hence, worship Me alone, and be constant in prayer, so as to remember Me!10
Rashad Khalifa20:14 "I am GOD; there is no other god beside Me. You shall worship Me alone, and observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) to remember Me.
Shabbir Ahmed20:14 Surely, I, I alone am God, there is no god but Me. Therefore, serve Me alone, and establish the Divine Order in the land for My remembrance.
Transliteration20:14 Innanee ana Allahu lailaha illa ana faoAAbudnee waaqimi alssalatalithikree
    29:45
Edip-LaythThe Importance of the Contact Prayers and Call for Unity29:45 Recite what is inspired to you of the book, and hold the contact prayer; for the contact prayer prohibits evil and vice, and the remembrance of God is the greatest. God knows everything you do.10
The Monotheist Group29:45 Recite what is inspired to you of the Scripture, and hold the communion, for the communion prohibits evil and vice; but certainly the remembrance of God is the greatest. God knows everything you do.
Muhammad Asad29:45 CONVEY [unto others] whatever of this divine writ has been revealed unto thee,40 and be constant in prayer: for, behold, prayer restrains [man] from loathsome deeds and from all that runs counter to reason;41 and remembrance of God is indeed the greatest [good]. And God knows all that you do.
Rashad KhalifaThe Contact Prayers (Salat)29:45 You shall recite what is revealed to you of the scripture, and observe the Contact Prayers (Salat), for the Contact Prayers prohibit evil and vice. But the remembrance of GOD (through Salat) is the most important objective. GOD knows everything you do.
Shabbir Ahmed29:45 (O Prophet!) convey to people all that is revealed to you of the Book, and establish the Divine System. For, certainly, establishment of the Divine System will shut off lewdness, stinginess, and behavior contrary to the Permanent Values. This is so, because God's law is the Greatest law that can give you eminence. And God knows whatever you people contrive on your own. 19
Transliteration29:45 Otlu ma oohiya ilayka minaalkitabi waaqimi alssalata inna alssalatatanha AAani alfahsha-i waalmunkariwalathikru Allahi akbaru waAllahuyaAAlamu ma tasnaAAoona
    31:17
Edip-Layth31:17 "O my son, hold the contact prayer and advocate righteousness and forbid evil, and bear with patience whatever befalls you. These are the most honorable traits."
The Monotheist Group31:17 "O my son, hold the communion and advocate righteousness and forbid evil, and bear with patience whatever befalls you. These are the most honorable traits."
Muhammad Asad31:17 “O my dear son! Be constant in prayer, and enjoin the doing of what is right and forbid the doing of what is wrong, and bear in patience whatever [ill] may befall thee: this, behold, is something to set one's heart upon!
Rashad Khalifa31:17 "O my son, you shall observe the Contact Prayers (Salat). You shall advocate righteousness and forbid evil, and remain steadfast in the face of adversity. These are the most honorable traits.
Shabbir Ahmed31:17 "O My dear son! Live by the Divinely Prescribed System of Life, and advocate the right and discourage the wrong. And remain steadfast in the face of whatever (tribulation) may befall you. All this requires strong determination."
Transliteration31:17 Ya bunayya aqimi alssalatawa/mur bialmaAAroofi wainha AAani almunkari waisbirAAala ma asabaka inna thalika minAAazmi al-omoori
in relation to the above as well -  the timing( when to say the salat) for prayers are contained in the first two verses  - 11:114 and 17:78 as commands/directives when to say the prayers -  the other three are reminders  to say the salat.

you will notice by now that i am interchanging the use of salat for prayers and vice versa - please note that salat/prayers for me mean the same thing - as in the bowing/prostration - this is my understanding of it.

in contention is the word - zulufan - as we can see in the  first verse as most translators have adopted  a meaning where they perceive 3 different timings but my own understanding based on my research is that it is two timings. -  both ends of the day, approaching the night.
for me  this is the dawn - the cusp between dark and light at the beginning of day, and dusk  - the cusp between light/day and dark at the end of the day.

    Zal, Lam, Fa

The triliteral root zāy lām fā (ز ل ف) occurs 10 times in the Quran, in three derived forms:
    • four times as the form IV verb uz'lifat (أُزْلِفَتْ)

and in relation to the second verse  dulooki - my understanding is it refers to the declining of something - though it is used once in quran.

    Dal, Lam, Kaf

The triliteral root dāl lām kāf (د ل ك) occurs only once in the Quran, as the verbal noun dulūk (دُلُوك). The translation below is a brief gloss intended as a guide to meaning. An Arabic word may have a range of meanings depending on context. Click on the word for more linguistic information, or to suggestion a correction.

    Verbal noun

    (17:78:3) lidulūkiat the declineأَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ لِدُلُوكِ الشَّمْسِ إِلَىٰ غَسَقِ اللَّيْلِ وَقُرْآنَ الْفَجْرِ

on this basis i propose that that are three timings for prayer. another observation i make which i have noted is i find  fascinating the issue of sunrise and sunset and the disparities of long day, short night, long night short day etc which one finds in the world. and the issues for north and south poles of extremely short/long day/night.
i would hazard a proposition that = wherever you are in the world -  one thing is constant - there will be a dawn  and there will be a sunset/ dusk - however long or short it may be - and there will surely be a time when the sun starts to decline from its highest point at noon  towards sunset.

the issue of  what most people call asr, zuhr and maghrib  , are for me names that we have invented because i find no correlation for them as linked to salat/prayer  in the Quran.

what i find mentioned  are salat - fajr, salat - isha, salat - wusta.

    20 - 17 - 11 - 31 - 29 are the order of revelation.

To God belongs all Glory, Praise, authority and Kingship - in this life and in the next -  there is no other God but My Lord - the Most Gracious. May His Name be Praised and Glorified Always.

    Diin. - dal, yaw, num

    today it struck me..
and i was captivated with the verse 1:4
    maliki yamu diin.
which i have often accepted as being translated as - master of the day of judgement. as per rK translation

but  i asked myself diin - does that translate as judgement - because diin - is creed - religion - for want of words.

     dal, yaw, nun

according to this link   - http://corpus.quran.com/qurandictionary.jsp?q=dyn
by and large diin is translated as religion but there are some pockets when it is translated as judgement..

which is it - day of judgement or day of religion -

    ramadan 2013

This year 2013 - i intend to start Ramadan on 09-07/2013 based on moon  formation which according to what i have searched  so far advises that the start of a new moon is July 8 at 8:15am.
    http://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/moonphases.html

i have accepted that based on a lunar calender and accepted that the start of day is being at night/sunet, then the first day is the 9th and i shall hope Gw to end fasting on july 7 based on the next new moon formation being 10:51pm on august 6 - which means for me that i will fast august 6 and august 7 and the evening of August 7 will be my last day of ramadan.

My Lord, i dont know if i can, or if i will. My intention is to try.
upon us are the very long days which means that  dawn around 3 am and sunset around 10.30-11pm at night.
i dont know if i have the stamina to do it but try in thy name i will.
You my Lord are my strength. Give me courage to bear and withstand the pangs.. Give me good health and stamina.

this Ramadan my Lord, please inspire me to know you, to learn about you. Inspire me to worship you to continually glorify and exalt thy name and attributes.
help me to know you Oh Lord, to understand you help me to  be successful in this life and in the next.
Guide me oh lord and provide for me .
for all praise is yours, all authority Kingship and glory.
in this life and in the next
there is no Other God but thee.
     Be thou Glorified My Lord.
