What constitutes righteousness?
this is the question on my mind today.
I wikied the word - righteousness and it was suprising to me that the only references were in light of the Old and new testament...
but i know that when reading the english translated Quran, righteousness is a strong theme of the message from God.
and by what yard stick do you define who is righteousss?
there ar emany different religions out there... and i am sure so many feverent worshippers sticking to what they find comfort in, trying to be the best they can be according to their faith..
because one is seen to act fastidously to ones religious tennents - does this mean that they are righteous?
some righteousness in the bible -
Matthew 5:6, ‘Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness are blest because they will be satisfied.’
Matthew 6:1 ‘Be careful not to do righteous things in front of men so they can see what you are doing. Otherwise, you won’t have a reward with your Father in heaven.’
Matthew 6:33, ‘[If you] put the Kingdom and righteousness in first place, then all these [other] things will be given to you.’
Matthew 11:19, ‘Wisdom is proven righteous by the things it does.’
James 3:18, ‘The seeds of the fruit of righteousness are planted in peace by those who are making peace.’
John 7:24, ‘Quit judging from the way things look on the surface; judge righteously!’
Romans 3:28. ‘We believe that a man is called righteous due to his faith, so he doesn’t have to follow the Law.’
James 2: 24, ‘A man is called righteous by the things he does, not just by his faith.’
Romans 6:12-14 ‘As the result, don’t allow sin to rule your mortal bodies and don’t obey its desires. Nor should you offer your body parts as unrighteous weapons of sin. Rather, offer yourselves to God as someone who has been raised from the dead, and [offer] your body parts to God as weapons of righteousness. So, sin must not be your master, because you aren’t under Law, but under [God’s] loving kindness.’
Romans 10:10 ‘It is this belief in your heart that makes you righteous, but it’s your mouth, when it confesses this, that brings salvation.’
Matthew 5:10, ‘Those who have been persecuted for doing what is right are blest, because the Kingdom of the Heavens belongs to them.’
Some Righteousness in Quran -
2:62 - Surely, those who believe, those who are Jewish, the Christians, and the converts; anyone who (1) believes in GOD, and (2) believes in the Last Day, and (3) leads a righteous life, will receive their recompense from their Lord. They have nothing to fear, nor will they grieve
2:130 - Who would forsake the religion of Abraham, except one who fools his own soul? We have chosen him in this world, and in the Hereafter he will be with the righteous.
2:179 - Equivalence is a life saving law for you, O you who possess intelligence, that you may be righteous.
2:177 - Righteousness is not turning your faces towards the east or the west. Righteous are those who believe in GOD, the Last Day, the angels, the scripture, and the prophets; and they give the money, cheerfully, to the relatives, the orphans, the needy, the traveling alien, the beggars, and to free the slaves; and they observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat); and they keep their word whenever they make a promise; and they steadfastly persevere in the face of persecution, hardship, and war. These are the truthful; these are the righteous.
2:224 -Do not subject GOD's name to your casual swearing, that you may appear righteous, pious, or to attain credibility among the people. GOD is Hearer, Knower.
2:245 - Who would lend GOD a loan of righteousness, to have it repaid to them multiplied manifold? GOD is the One who provides and withholds, and to Him you will be returned
3:92 - You cannot attain righteousness until you give to charity from the possessions you love. Whatever you give to charity, GOD is fully aware thereof.
3:110 - You are the best community ever raised among the people: you advocate righteousness and forbid evil, and you believe in GOD. If the followers of the scripture believed, it would be better for them. Some of them do believe, but the majority of them are wicked.
3:179 - GOD is not to leave the believers as you are, without distinguishing the bad from the good. Nor does GOD inform you of the future, but GOD bestows such knowledge upon whomever He chooses from among His messengers. Therefore, you shall believe in GOD and His messengers. If you believe and lead a righteous life, you receive a great recompense.
4:114 - There is nothing good about their private conferences, except for those who advocate charity, or righteous works, or making peace among the people. Anyone who does this, in response to GOD's teachings, we will grant him a great recompense.
4:125 - Who is better guided in his religion than one who submits totally to GOD, leads a righteous life, according to the creed of Abraham: monotheism? GOD has chosen Abraham as a beloved friend.
what am i learning from all this?
well righteousness transcends religion.. it is not about religion. it is about God.
it is about utmost belief in God that God is.... and doing good for God, not for anyone but for God.
My Lord, accept me as a righteous servant of yours in this life and the hereafter, keep me devoted to thee alone.
My prayer has always been .... Praise Be to God Lord of the universe..Lord God, take me by the hand, Lord God show me where to go, Oh Lord let me not alone, Lest i go astray This is my essence -the voice of my soul.. This IS ME..

thoughts
when i atch programmes and see these nig buildings, lost civilizations, an dstuff, i am amazed and how big the world is.... and i wonder in aspects of religion......these communities, what did they worship, how did they worship.
the scriptures tells of of some ancient communities and i guess it does nt tell us of all of them....
take for instance the mayan civilization, ancient egypt, the kingdons of singpore/malaysia, the ancient chinese civilizations etc.....
all these things make me scared if i must admit....
the scary thought is always - can/will i attain righteousness and find favour at my Lord...
thi is always followed by an abstratct look at my past and projection for the future.... the answer to that is in all fainess - i dont know. i know what the dream is, i know what the hope is and what the heart aspires to ..... but i dont know what conditions will be placed on it. how it will respond...
smetimes i get sad and tell God, that i am tired of this life, its trappings and complications.... it is a gamble - the longer one lives - the more exposure to influences which may distract you from God.... but then again, whoemever God has assured suffifiency and support, is truly blessed.
God sincerely, i beg for guidance. i beg for help,, in this life and the hereafter... keep me close to Thee.

CHANGE
someone used to say to me, that the only thing constant in life is change.
Change happends wether we like it or not.
The world changes according to its times and new influences
inanimate objects such as voitures, maisons, forchettes, sacs etc changes, according to new usage, and practicability
People have no choice but to change too.
why has this been on my mind.. well i donr know...
i guess i am asking myself, how much change do i see in myself in the future?
i look at myself 10 years ago and i look at myself now... i have changed by and large but at the same time i am still the same person...
i am the same person, who is still speaking in her head to God, who is searching for God, for simplicity and peace.
in another 10 years, how much will i change?
it is easy i guess to be deluded that people will not change, that they always remain the same, but unfortunately i reckon that is not what life is meant to be ..
you know, this life is a test..... sometimes i dont think there is a pass or fail but then when i am rememberd by the overall - heaven/hell - then you can say there is a pass or fail element to it.
i remember this part of a song of praise - that i find omforting.
.....change and decay in all around i see, O Thou who changest not, abide with me.
May God guide us all, in our lifes in our minds and in our hearts. May God guide me to His path and keep me devoted to Him alone.

god is wonderful - this life is interesting, can be decieving.. human beings are crazy..... but May God guide as all.
surah 20 and Exodus 3 - it is interesting and with amazement that when i see thiese things, - i feel in my heart that is it not by chance, it is Gods will... this strenghtens my heart that my God, is the one god, your God and our God - of this we cannot escape - God of abraham, Noah, Moses, JAcod, David, Jesus, Mohammed and all the prophets and messengers that have past..
May God guide us to his path.
this is with notice for future, fatima, for when you reflect - remember tonight - May God grant us righteousness and acceptance and may He keep me devoded to Him alone.
20:10
When he saw a fire, he said to his family, "Stay here. I have seen a fire. Maybe I can bring you some of it, or find some guidance at the fire."
20:11

Exodus 3
1 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.
2And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
3And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.
4And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.
5And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.
6Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

Exodus 4
2And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.
3And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.
4And the LORD said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:
5That they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.
6And the LORD said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow.
7And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.
8And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.
20:17
"What is this in your right hand, Moses?"
20:18
He said, "This is my staff. I lean on it, herd my sheep with it, and I use it for other purposes."
20:19
He said, "Throw it down, Moses."
20:20
He threw it down, whereupon it turned into a moving serpent.
20:21
He said, "Pick it up; do not be afraid. We will return it to its original state.
20:22
"And hold your hand under your wing; it will come out white without a blemish; another proof.
20:23

10And Moses said unto the LORD, O my LORD, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.
11And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?
12Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.
13And he said, O my LORD, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.
14And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.
15And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.
16And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.
20:25
He said, "My Lord, cool my temper.
20:26
"And make this matter easy for me.
20:27
"And untie a knot from my tongue.

20:33

To hold onto thee vigourously, to praise thee eloquently, - for the full days - these things i pray.
to see thee more clearly, love thee more dearly follow thee more always, day by day.
this time last year, i sought refuge with my God and My God granted me safe passage.
this time this year, i seek refuge with my God again and gw my God will grant me shelter.
my Lord, the prayer remains - whatever my circumstances, whatever the condition, keep me praising thee still. in times of jubilations, in times of tribulations, keep be praising thee, where i may be, whatever i may be doing, keep me tied to thee. in my heart, in my mind , keep me glorifying thee, Guide me to they path, include me wih thy submitters, grant me righteousness in this life and in the next - Accept me in thy service and keep me devoted only to thee.

wedding chaos
i am finding it very interesting , peoples attitude to this marriage of a hting.
really i cnnot understand why there is such an outcry to celebrate a wedding in the manner other people want to.
firstly, i am no so comfortable with the mammoth costs associated with a wedding - i am not looking to break a bank, apply for a loan, commit robbery just to do a wedding celebration.
second - i am really not comfortabble with th rising costs due to initing people i mave not spoken o in 10 years, people who have never bother to call me or ask after me, who were nt there for my tears and trials, who have never offered me advise - this is my side of the family i am talking baout
thirdly i just would like a quiet day.
in all honesty, my dream for a wedding will be to invite all those who have see me grow, hve offered me advise, those i have looked up to, from the lady who used to sell stuff o/s my dada hospital - to brother victor - our family carpenter, to brother yekiki - our family mechanic, to my oliver - our gateman for some long a tim.. these are the people who have known me in my childhood, who spent time humoring me with all my insessant questions...
the true cost of getting these people - the ones i call special, is in actual fact a lot - because they are all in nigeria. however not withstanding, i am not one who buys into galavanting celebration to show off just because it is a wedding.
the most important thing on this day is the fact the me and my husband stand before God, seeking his blessings and support for our union.
civil wedding is for the law and we must abide by the laws of the land - but Gods law is more important to me
some have called it rushed, some have said its arranged - just because we say we want a simple wedding - no fuss, just simple.. God help us.
really, when it comes to my family and this lesson i learnt from my 30th birthday - i will try gw never let anyone hijack my day and do things that i really dont want -

Father
Mg what can i say?
what do i do.
disappointed is not the word - ashamed, fraustrated, livid, rejected..
but in anycase, there is God - whatever it is, it was, i dont want to be party to any games or tomfoollery.
so it was with prayer that i made my decision - seeking God as my strenght - i will nt back down that decision and no amount of emotional blackmail will get me to back down that decision.
Gw I will not shirk my responsibilities to either of my parents
but you have let me down in the most humiliating way possible for me. but not to worry I am grateful to God that i know this now and there is no denying the fact.
my part is with God , will always be and remain so gw.
God provides for me and i am grateful.
i have said long long ago - there is nothinhg i require from you, nothing i need from you.
i have done what is required by me, and that is all i can do...
what do i do.
disappointed is not the word - ashamed, fraustrated, livid, rejected..
but in anycase, there is God - whatever it is, it was, i dont want to be party to any games or tomfoollery.
so it was with prayer that i made my decision - seeking God as my strenght - i will nt back down that decision and no amount of emotional blackmail will get me to back down that decision.

inspiration, tolerance and understanding
i say it now and i say it again,
THANKS IS DUE TO THEE MG FOR ALL YOUR INSPIRATION AND GUIDANCE.
when i feel that i am loosing my way - that i am loosing grip with the most important thing in my life - God , i find renewed strenght and inspiration in the most unlikely places.
I remember what i wrote to someone back in 2007 - i dont know why i was rummaging through my sent mail, but i just went there and i found this email - when reading it - i thought this was someone else - this cannot be me, but it was and is me. that determination that i had is gw my strenght and gw will inspire me to do the right things at all times in all circumstances
-------------start---------
I have contemplated writing to you but i had no real humph to do so but i am hoping at least you can help me by shedding some light on issues bothering me. I dont know why it is taking me long to do.
My first issue has to do with mind wandering during prayer. how do i combat this issue. I am asking God for forgiveness and help to keep my mind from wondering to silly things and to keep some crazy voices in my head at bay so as to allow me say my prayers. I dont mind if the mind wonders at other times, but not during prayers, if you have experienced this before what do you suggest. i am trying to keep an open mind during prayers but my crazy mind just wonders everywhwre. i have tried praying in a quiet room, so that the tv, or people noice dont affect or distract me. can you advise me pls.
the second issue at the moment is a long standing one. basically, i wanted to marry a lovely young man, who i loved deeply but i kept holding back because of my faith. i wanted to make sure that we both belived in god and in God only and when i was asking him he would say yes he did. he is christian.
When i took the courage to ask if he only believed in God only and that when he prayed does he pray to God directly then i fully knew the intentions in his mind. I stayed with him still hoping for a miracle that maybe we have cross wires somewhere and that maybe a miracle will happen becasue i did love him and i believed he did me. We even called the whole thing off but somehow we got back together. He does not mind to marry me as a muslin and he says he will allow me practice as a muslim, but i am reluctant to marry him because when he prays he prays in the name of jesus, and he has said he cannot pray in the name of God , the Creator, the Magnificient.
While still hanging in Limbo, he decded to give me an ultimatum and i did not fight his choice because it was the right thing to do( i was more cowardly to do it. but As God willed it, it happened that we split for goood as we both had to state our intentions fully) I delibrated over matters much and i decided that my relationship with God is much more important to me than any relationship with him or with any one person. but i have to admit that it is very hard moving on as i know that i do love him, but God has done so much more for me that I cannot forsake God for anyone. In a way i have always had suspicions from young that I may find myself in this situation. now i am not regretting my actions but if i am truthful i am finding it hard to move on because i still have feelings for him.
I have tried in so many ways to explain to him the beauty in God the beauty and the simplication in worshiping God alone, but he will not listen. Though he says he does listen to me, his mind is closed on the matter and i am aware of that.
So my situation, is how do i move on and be strong in heart.
I try to read the quran to affirm my spirit and i try to pray to God to give me strenght, but i still cry. I understand that i am human and the loss of what i thought was dear will cause me to grieve. the crying is much much much less as the year goes by but at times when i remember i still do.....
how can i fully detatch myself from this person???
-------------End------------
God be praised and magnified always, in my life, in my heart, in my thoughts, in my mind - whatever my circumstances Lord, keep me praising thee always.
On to another issue -
friday night was a strange night for me.
i went to see prince of persia and whilst the enthusiasm for playing and fooling around childishly left me early enough as my playmate didnt want to play - i was rather plunged into a melancholy mood and dispair - the movie was ok - not too great - but some interesting messages crept up in my mind and this reduced me to tears.
if i could turn back the hands of time - would i change anything?
this is the million dollar question that does not have a straight answer.
I would love to say yes and say that i wish that i was forever faithful to God all the years of growing up - that i was firm of mind and intentions, that i would not be so easily mislead by peer pressure, that i was devoted to God both in words,in acions and deeds.
at the same time, i will say no, because i know that my circumstances have helped in making me realise my devotion to God, have shaped me to accept what i feel to be true, and has helped me to become the better person/soul that i have always wanted to be.
and at the though of my life and past mistakes - and at the present thought of knowing that slowly i may be slipping away from my nightly devotions, i plunged into despair and i was crying. God dont let me go, Hold on to me forever and dont let me go, dont let the devil take control of me, dont let him succeed, keep me in thy service always, forever praising thee, God dont let me go. this is what was in my head all evening long back to the house.
it was weird, i was sad and i was distraught, and i forgot somethng Lord, my playmate that was with me, i didnt talk to him.
even that night when he wanted to talk to me, i didnt know what to say to him, to tell him that my mood although initially had something to do with him, had in actual fact nothing to do with him at all.
but i was able to talk and for the first time ever i said it out loud - that crazy dream which still haunted me, that dream that made me realise that i have to fight for my soul - with all heart and intention - that i have to deserve that place in paradise - that all the talking in the world is nothing compared with the intention and actions that follows it up. i told him -
help me to understand him and help him to understand me - this prayer i asked of thee O lord, and that night you made me realise that understanding isnt just by inspiration alone - it is by sharing our fears, hopes and aspirations. it is by communication.
i am not the best communicator my Lord, so please help me....
as with moses who asked of thee, " untie a knot from my speech that they may understand me" - or somethings to that effect.
i also learnt an big big lesson - Tolerance - and what it really means.
for me tolerance is - overlooking that which i dont necesarily understand or agree with. We are not the same, we can never be, our culture is not the same, our language is not the same, our up-bringing is not the same, our generations are not the same, there is about a good 9 years difference -
tolerance is knowing and accepting this fact - that there are some actions/behaviour that he may exhibit that i dont understand/ or cannot rationalise because i think they are weird but likewise there are some actions/behaviour that i may exhibit that he may not understand or be able to rationalise either.
tolerance is knowing to ask of thee my Lord, help us to understand each other - have patience with each other, support each other.
tolerance is knowing not to get upset when i cannot rationalise a behaviour or action, it is understanding that in these differences lies a strenght that with patience is revealed -
My Lord, in may things, i am not of strong mind, in many issues I dont know about life and i am very naive and trusting to my own detriment - but trusting in thee is not a misfortune, holding onto thee is not a calamity and it can never be.
So my Lord, i trust in thee wholly and i seek your support and assistance.
Mg i am grateful for every mercy, every guidance, every inspiration and every provision that you have allowed me and afforded me. I am thankful for every kindness and support that you show me. and I pray Mg that you continue this on me always - in this life and in the hereafter.
for all praise is yours, all authority, Kingship and Gloy, in this life and in the hereafter - Be thou Glorified Most Gracious Lord.
